We’re thrilled to have had Gabby fill the role of Lifeguard Development Officer over the past six months. She’s brought so much energy and enthusiasm to streamlining operations and supporting our volunteers. One of her key focuses has been developing clear position descriptions and policies, making it easier for everyone to understand their roles and responsibilities. Gabby has also boosted our social media presence with more frequent posts while improving website navigation to engage our members and community. She’s made our training programmes smoother by creating streamlined resources, and ensuring our volunteers have everything they need to deliver effective programmes. Plus, Gabby has fully documented the Huntington Beach exchange process, helping to future-proof this incredible initiative.
Gabby’s work on creating new policies and clear position descriptions has been a game-changer for the club, giving everyone a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities. During a recent Boss-to-Coach workshop with our PCs and VPCs, one activity focused on discussing “what’s going well” at Tairua SLSC. Right away, they highlighted how helpful the position descriptions have been. They appreciated having something to reference, helping them feel more confident in their duties and able to check if they were on the right track. These tools have made the club feel more organised and have created a stronger support system for everyone involved. Gabby’s efforts as LDO mean that every volunteer has a clear path, making it easier for everyone to do their best and contribute to a more cohesive team.
Building strong community connections and clear communication are at the heart of our club’s mission. Gabby has been instrumental in enhancing both, ensuring members and the wider Tairua community feel informed, involved, and supported. Gabby has been working closely with Janine to keep our club’s website fresh, organised, and easy to navigate, making it simple for members and the community to find important information. Beyond the website, Gabby has also been reconnecting with Tairua Primary School to bring back our collaboration junior surf education programme. This three-week program introduces local tamariki to surf safety, beach skills, and water confidence, encouraging a lifelong love for the water while teaching them vital safety skills like identifying rips and knowing what to do in emergencies. To make it easy for volunteers to run, Gabby is setting up all the necessary resources and ensuring everything’s in place for a smooth program delivery.
If we were to keep going about everything Gabby has accomplished in the last 6-months, we’d probably fill up the whole page! If you’d like to hear more about these projects, feel free to reach out. We love the positive impact she’s had, and we are very excited for what’s to come!
